Design and control of a 10 MW solar farm and battery storage
This project will include design and calculation of a 10 MW Solar farm and a 10 MW battery storage by implementing the latest smart inverter technology.
View DetailsBattery storage costs have evolved rapidly over the past several years, necessitating an update to storage cost projections used in long-term planning models and other activities. This work documents the development of these projections, which are based on recent publications of storage costs.
When supplied with an energy storage system (ESS), that ESS is comprised of 80 pad-mounted lithium-ion battery cabinets, each with an energy storage capacity of 3 MWh for a total of 240 MWh of storage. The ESS cabinet includes a bidirectional inverter rated at 750 kW ac (four-hour discharge rate) for a total of 60 MW ac.
· MLGW is additionally seeking 20MW+/- of 2- or 4-hour utility scale battery storage installations at a predetermined MLGW substation, and another 10MW+/- within the distribution system. MLGW will consider proposals for additional utility scale battery installations within the distribution system as recommended by the vendor.
By expressing battery system costs in $/kWh, we are deviating from other power generation technologies such as combustion turbines or solar photovoltaic plants where capital costs are usually expressed as $/kW. We use the units of $/kWh because that is the most common way that battery system costs have been expressed in published material to date.
