The YREB crosses nine provinces and two directly administered municipalities. It accounts for over 40% of the population, 40% of freshwater resources, and 45% of the country's economic output. Growth in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) lags that of the coastal areas.
Leveraging its integrated river–sea transportation network, cross-regional resource allocation capabilities, and strategic geographical proximity to global markets, this economic belt has effectively mitigated structural fragmentation in China's manufacturing ICSC while significantly impacting their resilience .
