2024 saw a record proportion of actual electricity generation by renewables in Europe, at 45%. There was an east-west contrast in the climate-driven potential for power generation from solar photovoltaic, with above-average potential in the east and below-average potential in the west. This increase was largely driven by growth of solar and wind power, followed by heat pumps. The share of renewables in Europe is expected to grow. . The region can boast to be the home of the first offshore wind park and the first continent to have seen renewable policy schemes introduced.
